How Much Auto Insurance Do You Need?
How much should I pay for my auto insurance?
Granted, we all cannot stand paying it every month; but you
cannot get away without having it! Really, it is unwise not
to get insurance. Perhaps you have perfectly valid cause for
not having car insurance coverage, though we personally
cannot think of any.
If you are like other people, your first and last priority
is getting bare minimum needs down. We will first start with
that and work from there. Majority of the states want you to
have liability insurance. As this will cover your arise when
you are at any fault in the accident. If you are
living in South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia or else
Wisconsin, you are not required by law to have the liability
coverage.
For rest of us, mandatory coverage differs according to the
state. Bodily injury liability limit for 1 person in accident
or bodily injury liability limit for all the people injured in
the accident or property damage liability limit for 1
accident.
For Alabama, minimum needs are $20,000 of the bodily injury
liability limit for one person, $40,000 limit of bodily injury
liability to all people and $10,000 limit of property damage
liability.
PIP or Personal Injury Protection or else Medical
Payments in few states, pays for your medical bills,
any lost wages and whatever other expenses might arise when you
are injured in the accident. It generally pays around 80
percent of the losses, and it pays death benefit. Personal
Injury Protection is requisite in
Delaware,
Colorado,
Hawaii,
Florida,
Kentucky,
Kansas,
Massachusetts,
Maryland,
Minnesota,
Michigan,
New Jersey,
North Dakota,
New York,
Oregon and
Utah.
Few states as well want you to buy the car insurance, which
will cover your medical costs, pain & suffering losses also
in some states, the car damage in an event that the motorist is
on fault & is either uninsured/ underinsured.
Though every state has got minimum requirements for
the bodily injury liability limit, it is in your best interest
to buy higher limits. In case somebody else is injured
and you are at fault, minimum liability coverage might not
cover medical expenses, and their attorney will come after your
possessions.
It is recommended that you buy 100 or 300
limits of the bodily injury liability. Alternatively,
if your assets are not much, you don't have a lot for them to
worry about, so minimum requirements may actually suit you, and
not to mention you may save some needed cash.
Besides the bodily injury liability, property damage
liability, personal injury protection, and uninsured or
underinsured motorist coverage, you get collision &
comprehensive car
insurance coverage to think of. Collision generally
covers damage to policyholder's auto resulting from running
in anything, be it your other car, fire hydrant, light post
and so on. Comprehensive coverage will take care of your
vehicle in case of car theft, falling objects, fire,
explosion, missiles, flood, earthquake, riot & civil
commotion, among some other things.
